The Journal of Musicology Pedagogy (JMP) calls for articles for the 2027 and 2028 calendar years.
A publication of the American Musicological Society, JMP publishes original research on all aspects of the teaching and learning of musicology and musical cultures across all educational levels, audiences, genres of music, interdisciplinary areas, and practitioner perspectives. The Journal seeks to present a balance of practitioner-based research and thoughtful essays on educational theory, curriculum development, and practical pedagogy. JMP is peer reviewed, made freely available online, and indexed in RILM, the Music Periodicals Database, and other periodical indexes. Formerly the Journal of Music History Pedagogy, the Journal was renamed Journal of Musicology Pedagogy in 2025 to better reflect the diversity of its content.
We are also delighted to publish reviews of books, multimedia, and related works relevant to musicology pedagogy. Additionally, the Journal periodically publishes multiauthored roundtable conversations that offer perspectives on a specific topic, question, or emergent methodological approach.
Authors of articles and reviews, as well as organizers of roundtables, are encouraged to contact the JMP Editor-in-Chief, Melanie Lowe, with questions (editor-jmp [at] amsmusicology.org). Submission materials are uploaded onto the JMP submission page, where you can also learn about the peer review process, required materials, and publication terms.
Deadline
Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis, but we encourage submissions before the end of calendar year 2026.
